Dicky Barrett, an English seaman, came ashore in Taranaki in 1828. He established a trading venture to Australia based in Taranaki with his partner Jacky Love & married into Te Ati Awa fighting battles & migrating south with them. Lots of Maori history in detail
The partners then established a whaling business at Te Awaiti. Whaling history about John Guard & others Here Barrett met William Wakefield & became an interpreter for the NZ Coy. He owned an hotel in Wellington before moving back to Taranaki. Lots of early Taranaki history
Barrett died in 1847 at New Plymouth & is buried at Waitapu urupa, Moturoa
