Tanichthys albonubes, named for the boy scout leader Tan, who first collected them from the White Cloud Mountain in China. For over 20 years this species was thought to be extinct in it's native habitat, until populations were discovered nearby in 2001.

These gorgeous little fish grow to about 30-40mm in length, and prefer to be kept in groups of 6 or more. They are fairly hardy, tolerating a wide range of water parameters, and do well in unheated aquariums. Because of their size and adaptability to a range of conditions, they are one of the best fish for the beginner fishkeeper, while their stunning looks and outgoing nature (when kept in large enough groups) also make them an excellent choice for experienced aquarists.
