We have a new arrival here at Radar Hill: a young kiwi chick.

The chick was born two weeks ago and is growing up fast – and it needs a name! We don’t know the sex of the chick, so the name needs to be gender-neutral. This chick comes from a successful breeding pair who had a chick about this time last year. The male is called Fred and the female is called Jade. We have a transmitter on Fred and get data on when he is sitting on a new egg. We’re auctioning off the chance to name this amazing chick, as well as getting up close and personal with a night’s accomodation on Radar Hill at the old radar station which is now operated as a Bed and Breakfast, by Fred and Laura Barnes. You will be able to hear kiwis calling from their verandah!

The proceeds will go toward helping us look after our kiwi population, including helping to pay our trapping costs.
