Description
Walking Wear Egg cup 6.00cm h x 7.50cm w. Glazed earthenware egg cup with legs Brown shoes and Tan Herringbone patterned socks.
Designed in 1973 by Roger Michell Lustre Pottery, manufactured by Carlton Ware. Stamped CarltonWare . England . A Lustre Design. Printed using a rubberstamp, a quick and inexpensive way of marking ware. It was usually stamped in black. This stamp is prior to 1974, when a new one was introduced. Decorator signed also.
What designer Roger Michell says about crazing on his wares: “Crazing is a feature of this ware, it is caused by the difference in shrinkage between glaze and body, the glaze shrinking minutely more than the body and forming small craze lines. Over years the changes in temperature generate tiny movements which in turn create a web like pattern in the glaze. Like wine it improves with age.”
Condition: All over crazing on the body. No chips or cracks. Excellent example. Small missing glaze patch from factory also.
If these appeal to your whimsy side; the Egg Cups are also great to use as tea lights, and of course, children absolutely adore them.
No reserve. Extreme care is taken in the packing of your item.
