These cylindrical gauges were issued for gauging the wear of barrels, primarily of .303" Rifles No4 & No5.

The gauge is used to check the wear at the muzzle of the barrel. To use the gauge it is inserted in the muzzle end of the rifle barrel. To quote from the 'Application of Small Arms Gauges' book:

'The gauge must not enter the muzzle more than 0.25 inches'. The gauges have an engraved line cut into the end showing this measurement.

These gauges are also listed for use with Rifles No1 (SMLE) - where it's use is listed as the same as for No4 Rifles, and for .303" Vickers MMG where it is also used to check for muzzle wear but in this case it must not enter the muzzle.

The gauges are in fair to excellent used condition some have patches of staining or flecks of corrosion from storage. There are a wide variety of markings, these three are marked .310", .308" and .307" along with manufacturers markings.
