About the Role
We are currently seeking an experienced Heavy Diesel Mechanic for ongoing work in Christchurch, Canterbury. This role involves the maintenance, testing and repair of diesel engines and mechanical components on trucks, heavy vehicles and plant.
You will be working to manufacturer specifications and service schedules to keep heavy fleet and equipment safe, compliant and operational, with an immediate start available for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities
*Detect and diagnose mechanical and electrical faults in diesel engines and components
*Dismantle and remove engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms and other components, and check parts
*Repair and replace worn and defective parts and reassemble mechanical components, referring to service manuals as needed
*Perform scheduled maintenance services such as oil changes, lubrication and engine tune-ups
*Maintain, test and repair the mechanical parts of trucks and heavy vehicles — transmissions, suspension, steering and brakes
*Test and adjust repaired or reassembled engines and components for correct performance
*Complete job records and ensure all work meets safety and compliance requirements

What We’re Looking For
*Minimum 3 years’ verifiable heavy diesel / heavy vehicle mechanical experience (verifiable via references and employment history)
*Sound knowledge of diesel engines, drivetrains, hydraulics and braking systems on heavy vehicles or plant
*Ability to diagnose faults using diagnostic equipment and service manuals
*Relevant trade qualification (NZQF Level 4 in automotive/heavy vehicle or equivalent) preferred
*Strong work ethic and ability to work independently or as part of a team
*Good understanding of workshop and site health & safety practices

Requirements
*Must pass pre-employment and random drug & alcohol testing
*Own basic hand tools preferred
*Valid working rights in New Zealand (Citizen, Resident, or appropriate Work Visa)
*Ability to provide relevant work references

What We Offer
*Full-time, ongoing work (at least 30 hours per week)
*Pay rate of $30.00 – $38.00 per hour (NZD), based on experience and qualifications
*A Green List occupation — eligible applicants may have a pathway to residence (verify current criteria with Immigration NZ)
