We are a well-established and growing hospitality business based in Dannevirke, Tararua. Due to the expansion of our kitchen operations, we are seeking two motivated and reliable Cooks to join our team on a full-time, permanent basis.

Experience or knowledge of international food cuisine will be an advantage and will strengthen your application.

Key Responsibilities

As a Cook, your duties will include:

  • Preparing and cooking menu items to the restaurant's quality and presentation standards.
  • Carrying out daily food preparation in accordance with established recipes, portion sizes, and presentation guidelines.
  • Following instructions from senior kitchen staff and complying with all kitchen procedures.
  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in food preparation and storage areas.
  • Handling, storing, and rotating food safely, including monitoring expiry dates.
  • Monitoring the quality of raw ingredients and finished food products.
  • Complying with all food safety, hygiene, sanitation, and workplace health and safety requirements.
  • Operating kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Assisting with stock control and notifying supervisors when supplies require replenishment.
  • Receiving, checking, storing, and organising food deliveries.
  • Maintaining a good knowledge of menu items, ingredients, and preparation methods.
  • Working collaboratively with kitchen staff to ensure efficient and timely service.
  • Plating and presenting meals accurately, ensuring correct portion sizes and consistent presentation.
  • Performing other reasonable duties as required to support the efficient operation of the kitchen.

Skills and Experience Required

The successful applicant must have:

  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience as a Cook; or
  • A relevant NZQF Level 4 qualification or higher (or overseas equivalent).

The ideal candidate will also demonstrate:

  • Strong attention to detail, particularly in relation to food quality, presentation, and hygiene.
  • The ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills. A reliable, positive, and professional work ethic.
  • Flexibility to work rostered shifts across a seven-day operation, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
