Description

Partnering with their allocated sites at all levels, the Health & Safety Business Partner provides expert advice on Health and Safety issues and best practice, with a collaborative and engaging approach. Considered a trusted advisor in all aspects of Health and Safety, the primary focus of the role is to drive the implementation, operation, and improvement as per the AFFCO H&S Management System at the sites, ensuring a consistent and structured approach and that content is of a satisfactory standard and fit for purpose, with a focus on results.

The role has been established to provide assurance at site level that AFFCO is meeting requirements with regard to workplace safety, health and rehabilitation related to New Zealand legislation, ACC certification criteria, ISO standards and certification requirements, and any other similar requirements. In addition to meeting minimum requirements as described, as the business matures on its safety journey, the role requires active involvement and participation to continuously improve the management of health and safety and to implement, embed and maintain improvements at a site level.

The role requires an extremely high standard of advising and liaising among key internal and external stakeholders, and extensive travel to AFFCO and SPM sites throughout regions of New Zealand allocated to you. This includes mentoring, supporting and delivering appropriate training within all areas of the organisation and the coaching of site-based Health and Safety Coordinators. In addition, the role includes making recommendations to the National H&S Manager and the AFFCO H&S Lead Team on a strategic and operational level and subsequent change management for the full cycle of continual improvement.

Those with manufacturing experience or experience in food environments will find this role extremely interesting and challenging, with no two days being quite the same. AFFCO's organisation size, production sites with a wide range of risks, and the scope of our H&S Plan and programmes will keep you engaged in all areas of H&S.

The position works closely with the National H&S Manager to coordinate and assist in the following areas:

  • Operational risk and management systems auditing and reporting on findings, with the opportunity to provide your valued input to AFFCO’s improvement processes.
  • Building and implementation of fit-for-purpose H&S systems and processes including software applications, procedures, and training, coaching and guidance to plant management and workers.
  • Document review and revision for the H&S Management system.
  • Annual review, revision, finalisation, and implementation of site H&S Plans and KPIs.
  • Conducting incident investigations and review of investigations done on-site, including ICAM-based.
  • Assurance and verification.
  • Site reporting and coordinating.
  • Work at a site level to encourage and support worker engagement and to ensure H&S objectives are being met.

What do I need to succeed in the role?

  • A strong knowledge and/or operational experience in high-risk industrial workplaces, ideally in the meat industry.
  • Strong H&S technical and legal knowledge and track record.
  • Strong H&S Management systems knowledge.
  • Strong administrative and report-writing skills.
  • Strong computer skills and aptitude, particularly in MS Office software.

Additional technical/engineering qualifications relevant to industrial processing environments will be advantageous.
