About the Role We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Analyst to support the delivery of accurate, timely, and compliant payroll services within our Human Resources team.
Reporting to the Acting Human Resources Manager, this role plays a key part in ensuring payroll processing runs smoothly, with a strong focus on data integrity, customer service, and continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities:
- Process fortnightly payroll accurately and on time using Datapay
- Maintain payroll data integrity and ensure compliance with NZ legislation and Council policies
- Respond to payroll queries from employees and managers in a timely, professional manner
- Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies and issues
- Analyse payroll data to identify discrepancies, trends, and opportunities for improvement
- Support reporting, reconciliations, and audit activities
- Support system enhancements and process improvements, including working with Datapay
- Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders and external providers
About you We’re looking for someone who brings both technical expertise and a proactive, customer-focused mindset. You will also have:
- 3–5 years’ payroll experience, ideally in a medium to large organisation
- Sound understanding of NZ payroll legislation, including Holidays Act requirements
- Experience using Datapay (or similar payroll system)
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills
- Confident communicator with a customer-focused approach
- Relevant qualification or working towards one (e.g. NZPPA) is desirable
- Local government or public sector experience is beneficial but not essential
