Purpose of the Role
We’re seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Payroll & Team Support Supervisor to join our team. This is a key role responsible for ensuring accurate, compliant, and efficient payroll and time recording processes across all branches. Working closely with the Finance Manager, you’ll play a crucial role in maintaining best-practice systems, supporting staff, and driving continuous improvement across payroll and finance functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Overseeing end-to-end payroll processes
- Maintain accurate employee and payroll records
- Process payroll inputs, including new starters, changes, and allowances
- Prepare, reconcile, and file PAYE and other payroll-related returns with IRD
- Keep payroll processes up to date with current legislation and best practice
- Maintain and administer time recording systems
- Train and support staff in the accurate use of time recording systems
- Support audit processes by preparing payroll and employee-related information
Other Tasks
- Reconcile payroll bank accounts regularly
- Support Accounts Payable processes such as one-off invoices and staff allowances
- Review monthly Accounts Payable and process payments
- Continually review processes and systems to ensure best practises are being used
- Supervisory tasks such as providing guidance and day-to-day support to admin staff
- Help team members troubleshoot problems
About You
To thrive in this role, you’ll need:
- Minimum of 4+ years payroll experience, with exposure to complex payroll environments (e.g. multi-branch, variable hours, or high-volume workforces)
- Strong understanding of payroll legislation and employment obligations
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Confident in managing payroll queries and communicating with staff
- Strong Excel and systems capability
Other Requirements
This role is primarily based in our Hokitika office, but you may be required to work out of our Greymouth office twice a month.
