We are seeking an experienced Stock Manager to run a 520ha dairy support and trading property in Albury, South Canterbury. This is part of a large scale dairy farm. The number of stock on farm is dependent on the seasons which can range from up to 500 wintering dairy cows, 300 carryover cows, 150 nurse cows and fattening 150 dairy beef cross cattle. There is also varying numbers of ewes and lambs in spring and fattening lambs in Autumn/Winter. The contour is flat to rolling with some steep sideling’s and the farm is continuing ongoing development. This is a hands on role as you will be running the day to day of the farm, working closely with the owner and liasing with contractors to meet timely targets. Oversee the casual staff during peak times of the year. This role would suit someone who is wanting to learn more about feed management (break feeding) and progress in the industry as plenty of on farm training will be provided to hit key residuals and weight targets of stock. Accommodation on farm is provided, modern 4 bedroom house which has recently been renovated. This would suit a family as the primary school is 7km away. The successful applicant will have the following attributes: - Atleast 3 years farming experience - A good understanding and knowledge of animal health and routine tasks relating to this e.g. drenching, weighing, and good record keeping. - The ability to follow instructions and achieve these in a timely manner - The knowledge and skills to carry out required repairs and maintenance on vehicles, machinery, electric fencing, water systems etc. - Establish a good working relationship with the owner to make good management decisions that will also demonstrate good initiative. - A high level of physical fitness along with atleast 2-3 well trained working dogs. - Current NZ driver license What we offer - A competitive remuneration package - Work vehicle and other necessary equipment to perform your duties - The opportunity to further your knowledge and understanding of a career you are passionate about.
