Fertiliser Spreader Operator

McCarthy Contracting Ltd is a well established agricultural contracting business located on the outskirts of Christchurch. Our contracting operations include baling, cultivation, drilling, Ag spreading, silage production, fodderbeet harvesting, combine harvesting and cartage.

We currently require a permanent fertiliser spreader operator to assist with our fertiliser spreading operation.

We run a fleet of Isuzu and Iveco fertiliser spreaders carrying out spreading on a variety of crops and pastures in the Selwyn and Mid Canterbury Districts. The spreaders run Topcon Spreading Software with Precision Tracking for proof of placement. This position will be operating our mid truck for crop and pasture spreading. This truck runs cropspec cameras for on demand variable rate nitrogen spreading.

We are Spreadmark Certified for our fertiliser spreading.

This role is responsible for:

• Collecting, carting and spreading fertiliser on customers pastures and crops as directed.
• Keeping all records, and use the technology provided, to record the spreading of fertiliser as directed.
• Cleaning and maintaining the machinery as required.

What you will need to have:

• You will require a minimum of a class 2 licence for this position, class 5 is preferred.
• Knowledge of agricultural operations and farming practices.
• Experience in operating and maintaining trucks and/or agricultural machinery.
• Ideally experience in fertiliser spreading operations - minimum of 6 months preferred.
• A good level of competency in operating technology - a knowledge of Topcon Spreading software and app based programmes is required.
• Be customer focused and be able to work as part of a team or independently as required.

What we offer:

• Minimum pay rate of $30 per hour, maximum pay rate of $35 per hour.
• Minimum of 40 hours, maximum of 70 hours, work per week.
• Assistance to get class 4 & 5 licence can be provided.
