Shepherd /General Farm worker

About the Station:

Mesopotamia Station is a family run High Country Station dedicated to high-quality merino wool , deer velvet and fattening animal production covering 5,500 ha with a small run-off block which currently fattens all our lambs.

Location is 1 hour inland from Geraldine at the top of the Rangitata Gorge (1.5 hrs drive from Ashburton or Timaru)

Mesopotamia Farming Operations:

  • Merino ewe breeding flock
  • Merino hogget and Merino X finishing
  • Red Hind breeding herd
  • Deer velveting
  • Angus cows Breeding herd
  • Hill country Pasture Development and Management
  • Winter crops and summer grazing under pivot and on dryland
  • Developing water storage and further pivot area
  • Hunting safari park and Thar breeding block

Your Role:

  • Daily stock shifts
  • All animal health operations
  • Yard work with sheep, cattle and deer
  • Infrastructure maintenance (fences, water systems, etc.)
  • Tractor and machinery work
  • Accurate digital record keeping for all operations
  • Assisting with hunting safari operations
  • Usual farm tasks , dog tuckers , muttons etc
  • Weed and Pest control

Requirements:

  • 2-3 broken in working dogs (no need for a big team)
  • Ideally two years of industry experience (cadetship or workforce experience)
  • Full NZ driver's licence
  • NZ residency
  • Reliable, motivated, physically and mentally fit
  • Keen to learn and develop your career in agriculture.
