Right now, we are looking for as Assistant Hatchery Manager to join our team based in New Plymouth.
About the Role
Reporting to the Production Hatchery Manager, the Assistant Hatchery Production Manager will be responsible for managing the production team to achieve key performance indicators whilst encouraging the team's involvement and contribution to workplace improvements. Specifically, you will plan and produce day old chicks on time; within product, quality specifications ensuring that workplace safety, bio security, performance, and training standards are of the highest level.
You should have experience working in a dynamic processing environment and have proven problem solving and decision-making skills. You must be prepared to work hands-on to learn all aspects of the role with a view to understanding, analysing, and improving processes. Well-developed analytical and people management skills are a pre-requisite. Your personal attributes will include leadership, integrity, drive, and motivation to succeed in the role. Due to the critical nature of the business the successful candidate will be required to respond to alarms on a rostered basis. The ideal applicant will live either onsite in the company house provided or within 15km of the hatchery.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Assisting in production of quality Day old Chicks
- Utilises production planning and incubation equipment, hatchery, and transport facilities.
- Planning and staff utilisation for hatchery on a day-to-day basis
- Maintain bio security regulations.
- Continuous improvement (SIMPLIFY!)
- Assist in cost control.
- Occasional trips to farms for customer service purposes.
- Work on rostered weekend
What will you bring?
- Previous livestock experience is not mandatory but will be advantageous
- Preferable 3-5 years' Supervisory experience
- Mechanically minded, good planning and organisation skills
- An understanding of the Animal Welfare codes.
- Experience with animal husbandry practices and animal health issues.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of Health & Safety best practices including environmental management
- Tertiary qualification will be an added advantage
