THE OPPORTUNITY
Join a high-performing team at Thompson’s Dairy and gain hands-on experience across all aspects of modern dairy farming.
This is a practical, varied role where you’ll build strong foundations and develop your skills while working as part of a collaborative and supportive team.
You’ll be assisting with everything from milking and calving through to feeding stock, spraying and general farm work. Alongside this, you’ll have the opportunity to learn the systems and skills that come with working on a progressive farm - including shed and animal health management.
This role is well suited to someone who enjoys being hands-on, has a genuine interest in farming, and is keen to grow their career in an environment that encourages learning and shared responsibility.
You’ll be provided with high-quality PPE and supported by a strong health and safety culture, working with well-maintained, up-to-date farm equipment.
THE FARM
Thompsons Dairy Unit is conveniently located just fifteen minutes from Reefton and 50 minutes from Greymouth.
This expansive 300-hectare farm operates a 54-bail rotary system with ACRs and Milkhub, efficiently milking two herds totalling nearly 700 cows at peak production.
The surrounding area offers rural lifestyle, with picturesque landscapes, outdoor recreational activities, and a close-knit community. Whether you're exploring the nearby forests, enjoying the local cuisine, or participating in community events, the lifestyle here is both enriching and peaceful.

You enjoy being hands-on, take pride in doing things well, and are keen to keep learning and building your capability on-farm. You’re comfortable taking responsibility for your work, while also valuing collaboration and open communication with the wider team.
You’ll bring a thoughtful, practical approach to your day-to-day work, with a genuine commitment to animal wellbeing and working safely.
You’ll also have:
- Experience in a similar role
- A positive, reliable approach and the confidence to work independently when needed
- Clear communication skills and the ability to contribute positively to a team environment
- A current New Zealand driver’s licence
