All about the job
This role will have you at the heart of protecting our natural treasures. Working throughout the city's open spaces, parks and reserves and coastal landscape – the ideal job for someone looking to work outdoors and contribute to our commitment to the health of the harbour.
You will be responsible for:
- Carrying out ecosystem weed control across our most precious reserves.
- Preparing, planting and maintaining revegetation areas and restoration sites
- Weed control by mechanical and chemical means and occasional animal pest control
- Providing friendly, positive and professional customer service excellence at all times
Note that this is a fixed term role until December 2027, covering another employees secondment.
All about you
It would be fabulous if you already hold a wheels & tracks driver license endorsement, have experience using field maps, GPS mapping systems and have some plant identification skills.
You'll need to show us that you have:
- Experience in ecological weed control, including safe herbicide use.
- Growsafe certification and willingness to progress levels
- Training and/or relevant experience in best practice pest plant control
- A practical, hands-on approach and enjoy working outdoors in all weather and terrain.
- Plant ID skills and understanding of biodiversity and restoration
- A willingness to learn and a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated experience to safely and efficiently operate small plant and machinery
- A level of fitness to meet the physical demands of the role.
- Good reliability and organisational skills, including the ability to maintain field records.
- The ability to work well in a small team and communicate clearly with colleagues and supervisors.
- A NZ Full drivers licence
- Willingness to use technology (e.g. phones, apps, GPS) to help record work and improve efficiency.
