Description

We are Natural New Zealand Honey LTD. Settled at the foothills of Canterbury, flanked by the Okuku and Ashley rivers you’ll find our beekeeping base. It’s tranquil and the sunsets are phenomenal. 15 minutes away is the nearest town of Rangiora- reasonably sized with a handful of supermarkets, a cinema, decent curry... all the necessities. For a big smoke fix, The Garden City, Christchurch, is on the go only 45 minutes away. We run hives in some of New Zealand's most pure and breath-taking scenic areas producing Manuka, Clover, Honeydew, Kamahi and Rata honeys of an exceptional quality…
There are currently 18 of us who make up Natural New Zealand Honey- a diverse bunch with varying ages, ethnicities & interests with a shared passion for working with and protecting, those agricultural champions, the honey bees… We start every week with a coffee and finish it with a beer. We work hard and we get on well so it’s important to us that new additions to our crews can contribute to that team culture, can support their unit through the busy parts of the season (which are honestly very busy), have brains, drive and initiative. the kind that instigates incentives and pay rises. We encourage promotion from within, offering training, opportunities to diversify your role and incentives to develop your skills… with the promise of management/leadership roles for awesome contributors. Grow with us... The role of beekeeping apprentice is for someone who intends to stay with the company and make a career of this with intention to take on senior roles once trained- we invest in you and you invest in us. You’d be working alongside and trained by expert beekeepers. Beekeeping Involves, beehive manipulation, genetic selection, managing colonies, controlling pests and diseases and all aspects of hive management. The busiest times are Spring, from mid-September through to the end of February, requiring you to work up to 7 days a week during that time. Sometimes you’ll be working 60-hour weeks… which is perfect if you like twilight adventures in epic settings, filling your pockets and sculpting your abs while you work. On that note, it’s important to mention physical health is crucial, you’ll be a human forklift at certain parts of the season- dickey spines need not apply, nor do we encourage applicants with bee allergies, obviously.

Other things successful applicants need to bring to the table;

  • There are 3 beekeeping roles available from junior to senior field positions starting early August 2026- you need to be focused, passionate and interested in learning and show dedication to a company that means to offer you opportunity.
  • Beekeeping experience is essential, 1 year’s commercial experience as a minimum.
  • You’ll need a clean, full Driver License, Ideally a class 2 licence or higher.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • During the peak of the bee season we’re going to need you to work long hours and be flexible. If you struggle with physical work or long hours this job really isn’t for you.
  • We need you to be prepared to take on a management role should it arise, and to have a genuine interest in furthering your skill set by utilising the continued education and training you’ll have access to through us.
  • With your future development in mind, we want an effective communicator.

In terms of remuneration... we’ll acknowledge the experience you’ve had and negotiate accordingly… but we can say we offer a totally competitive hourly wage and do performance-based wage reviews throughout the year.

For now, email us a cover letter and CV that includes references/referees. Applicants should have NZ residency or a valid NZ work permit.

We are looking forward to hearing from you, bee excited.
