The role We are on the search for an experienced Heavy Equipment Technician to help us support our brands. This role is based in Nelson, Tasman area with travel around New Zealand from time to time. You will be required to travel to different regions as part of this role supporting our customer base.
What you will do:
- Operate out of our Brightwater based workshop or company ute to service, repair and maintain heavy forestry equipment on-site.
- Conduct scheduled servicing, unscheduled breakdown repairs, diagnostics, fault-finding, and component replacements as required.
- Handle hydraulics, diesel engines, large plant systems (track / undercarriage / drive systems) in a forestry context.
- Manage your own daily schedule, liaising with clients/end-users, coordinating parts and logistics, and reporting back to the home office.
- Maintain accurate job records, service reports, parts usage, and ensure compliance with health & safety standards.
- Be the face of the company in the field – delivering great service, representing the business professionally.
What we are looking for:
- Trade qualification as a Heavy Equipment Technician – ideally with experience on forestry, harvesting or plant equipment.
- Strong diagnostics ability, mechanical/hydraulic systems knowledge, confident working on large plant in remote/field conditions.
- A proven ability to work autonomously – as at times this is a field-based role, no day-to-day supervision onsite.
- Excellent time-management and organisational skills, self-motivated, able to coordinate travel, parts and work on your own.
- Full NZ driver’s license or equivalent with the ability to be recognised in New Zealand.
- Willingness to travel across New Zealand, stay away occasionally as required, work out of a service vehicle.
- Good communication skills (client interaction, liaising with head office, reporting).
- Commitment to safety, quality workmanship and high service standards.
