Port of Tauranga
Listing Description
Description
Port of Tauranga is New Zealand’s largest port and international freight gateway. In Tauranga, we manage a diverse and extensive property portfolio spanning over 190 hectares of land.
Our facilities include the country’s largest and fastest-growing container terminal, extensive bulk cargo wharves and storage areas, bunker berths, and infrastructure supporting more than 24.5 million tonnes of annual import and export cargo. This includes roading and rail networks, operational plant, buildings, and amenities.
An opportunity has arisen for a motivated individual to join our Property Services Team, which is responsible for the ongoing maintenance and repair of Port of Tauranga’s extensive asset portfolio - both on land and in the water.
We’re seeking an enthusiastic, reliable, and proactive team player. While experience in heavy construction or maintenance would be an advantage, it is not essential. Full training will be provided, along with opportunities to gain valuable industry experience and licenses.
This is a full-time role (Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week) reporting to the Civil Works Supervisor. You’ll work as part of a skilled and supportive team delivering a wide range of civil and marine maintenance projects to meet the Port’s operational and maintenance requirements.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
This is a hands-on position with variety every day. Typical work includes:
- Maintenance and repair of berths, piles, and fender systems;
- Maintenance of navigational beacons, buoys, and other marine markers;
- Civil works across land and marine environments, including concrete, carpentry, and minor earthworks;
- Rail maintenance and small infrastructure repairs around the port;
- Assisting with environmental controls and monitoring within the harbour and port areas;
- Working alongside commercial divers on underwater maintenance tasks; and
- Completing a range of general maintenance and support tasks that keep the Port operating efficiently and safely.
WE'RE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO:
- Is physically fit, active, and enjoys working outdoors in all weather conditions;
- Is confident working at heights and in confined spaces;
- Is eager to learn new skills and contribute positively to the team;
- Works well both independently and collaboratively;
- Has a strong focus on health, safety, and environmental responsibility;
- Is practical, approachable, and takes pride in their work; and
- Is comfortable in a marine and heavy industrial environment.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Legal entitlement to work in New Zealand;
- Full New Zealand driver’s licence (manual);
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test and background checks.
The following would be advantageous (or can be gained after appointment):
- Forklift licence;
- Heavy vehicle driver’s licence (Class 4);
- Hiab operation experience;
- Marine or civil construction experience.
