Job Description: We are looking for an experienced full-time Earthmoving Plant Operator, with experience in dredging, desilting and sediment removal, to work on pond renewal and environmental enhancement projects mostly in and around Auckland. The candidate must possess the knowledge and 3+ years of experience, along with the confidence to engage and professionally interact with other staff and subcontractors, to safely execute their work duties in accordance with the Site and Project Managers’ instructions. Key responsibilities:
- Participation in the company’s health and safety systems on-site and the reporting of all incidents and near misses
- Operating a range of earthmoving machines and plant equipment, in and around water, to remove silt and sediment
- Manoeuvring machines and raising and lowering attachments to move material by using hydraulic controls
- Checking, preparing and setting up machines, attaching appropriate equipment and fittings (i.e. buckets, scoops, dredge pumps, grapplers, cutting heads, hoses etc.), reporting faults, lubricating, fueling and carrying out minor maintenance
- Monitoring plant operations to control water velocity and pressure, adjusting polymer injection, and testing flocculation
- Preparing and setting up work compounds and dewatering areas for extracted silt, sludge and sediment
- Liaising with Site Managers to ensure projects are effectively planned, monitored and delivered to project specifications
- Input into project specific documentation including method statements, Site Specific Safety Plans, Quality Management Plans and Environmental Management Plans
- Participating in daily toolbox meetings with other staff and subcontractors
- Ensuring work is carried out to the highest environmental standards, and reporting issues to Site Managers
- Recording accurate and detailed job sheets
- Assisting with site survey and setting out
- Contributing to a safe work site and safe working practices
- Overall responsibility with daily traffic management procedures; and
- Identifying, recording and mitigating against hazards associated with specific tasks.
Skills and Experience: The successful candidate should:
- Have a successful track record, with 3+ years of relevant experience, along with appropriate qualifications, of operating plant (e.g. excavators, skid steers, rollers, and specialist environmental equipment) in and around waterbodies;
- Be experienced at working in and around waterways, preferably with extracting and removing silt and sludge;
- Have a strong understanding of mechanical and physical processes, with the ability to draw on their experience to implement a tailored, appropriate solution for successful project delivery;
- Be skilled at building relationships and communicating to stakeholders at all levels of the organization;
- Embrace working in a diverse and multi-cultural working environment with colleagues from all backgrounds
- Have excellent communication skills and be fluent in both written and verbal English;
- Have strong decision-making skills including the ability to balance conflicting interests;
- Be self-motivated with the ability to work well both independently and in a team orientated collaborative environment;
- Be able to deal with ambiguity, find creative resolutions and drive for results;
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach and lead others
- Be willing and able to travel around New Zealand if required
