We are seeking expressions of interest from highly motivated and experienced Operators to join our growing Construction Crew team

Ōtaki to North of Levin Project
The Ōtaki to north of Levin (Ō2NL) highway will dramatically improve safety, resilience, and efficiency, as well as increasing transport choices for the area's growing population. The Ō2NL project is led in Partnership with NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi, Muaūpoko Tribal Authority, local hapū of Ngāti Raukawa ki te Tonga and council partner Horowhenua District Council.
This transformative project is being delivered using a two-alliance approach, with each alliance delivering a section of the road and associated works. Together alliance partners are working to create a positive legacy for the region, led by our project principles to tread lightly with the whenua and create an enduring legacy. We are seeking excellent people for this unique opportunity to work and collaborate with leading industry organisations.
Downer is proud to be a partner within the South Alliance alongside McConnell Dowell, Beca, and Tonkin + Taylor as Non-Owner Participants (NOPs). Our scope is from Ōtaki through to South of the Ohau river.
Te kōwhiringa | The Opportunity
With preparations for Ō2NL's first Summer season underway, we are now seeking expressions of interest from experienced heavy machine operators.
You will be operating a variety of heavy machinery such as:
- Excavators
- Telehandlers
- Rollers
- Watercarts
- Graders
You'll also be expected to assist with physical labour tasks as required to support the team and project delivery.

We're looking for skilled and committed operators who take pride in their work and understand the importance of contributing to a project that will leave a lasting legacy for the region. You'll be part of a team that values safety, collaboration, and excellence, and you'll bring the right attitude, experience, and capability to match.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- A minimum Class 2 Licence and Wheels, Tracks & Rollers (WTR) endorsement
- Proven experience operating Trimble GPS systems for precision earthworks
- Drainage and landscaping experience, with an eye for detail and finish
- Capability to operate a range of excavators, adapting to different site needs
- Experience building crane pads and working around structures teams (desirable)
- A strong commitment to safe work practices and Zero Harm principles
