Job DescriptionMō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this positionTe Aho o Te Kura Pounamu (Te Kura) is looking for a passionate and dedicated Reader/Writer to support an ākonga (student) in their home-based learning in Hikurangi. This part-time role for 8 hours per week is an opportunity to play a key role in a professional team, providing tailored learning support that empowers ākonga to reach their goals. This is a rewarding and flexible opportunity where you'll make a meaningful impact on a student's learning journey.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Supporting ākonga with their learning, as outlined in their Individual Education Plan (IEP).
  • Assisting Kaiako (teachers) in delivering lessons and adapting materials to meet individual learning needs.
  • Providing one-on-one or small group support to help ākonga achieve their learning goals.
  • Supporting ākonga to engage in online learning and use assistive technology where required.
  • Encouraging positive engagement by fostering a culturally responsive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Monitoring progress, providing feedback to Kaiako, and keeping accurate records.
  • Attending team meetings, professional development, and supporting learning events or activities. Ko koe tēnei | About youWe're looking for someone who brings energy, empathy, and adaptability to engage with our ākonga and support their learning. You'll Be Great In This Role If You Have
  • Experience as a Reader/Writer or in a similar role supporting ākonga with special educational needs.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills to connect with ākonga, Kaiako, and whānau.
  • Patience, flexibility, and a genuine passion for supporting students to succeed.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Confidence using a computer and online learning tools.
