Are you looking for work and have some machinery operator experience?
Macaulay Metals is a 100% New Zealand owned and operated Scrap Metal Recycling Company and we’ve been in operation for over 60 years! We purchase both steel and non-ferrous metals, process them and sell them for further recycling.
We are looking for fit and keen people to join our team of Scrap Metal Workers in our Wellington Yard, based in Seaview, Lower Hutt. These are hands-on roles that include some manual handling. Our Machinery Operators are responsible for sorting, grading and processing metal product ready for export. The positions will be operating our cable granulators, sweed cable chopping plant, cable strippers, balers and alligator shears.
If you are keen to learn more about scrap metal and have a minimum of two years’ experience in a relevant field, we would love to hear from you.
The successful applicant will tick the following boxes:
- Have at least two years of experience in a relevant field;
- Be able to follow all safe working procedures for the work being undertaken and be health and safety minded;
- Having a current forklift certificate as a preference, however not essential;
- Have a good eye to determine the differences in the products being sorted – training is provided to assist you to learn the different types of metals and gradings of metal;
- Be a team player;
- Able to carry out pre start checks on equipment and machinery;
- Be prepared to learn and take part in regular Toolbox talks;
- Hold a full clean driver’s license;
- Be able to pass criminal history (MoJ) check;
- Be drug and alcohol free- must be able to pass a pre-employment check and random drug testing.
- Be legally entitled to work in New Zealand.
Full training is provided and there is an opportunity for the right person to gain additional skills and unit standards as required for the role or to move into other areas of the yard.
The hours of work are Monday to Friday, with Saturday’s mornings as rostered. The minimum guaranteed number of hours per week are 40 hours.
