Excavator Operator

Macaulay Metals is a 100% New Zealand owned and operated Metal Recycling Company and we’ve been in operation for over 65 years! We purchase both steel and non-ferrous metals, process them and sell them for further recycling. We are working hard to recycle metal.

In this job you will be loading and unloading trucks, sorting, and grading steel scrap and loading containers for export.

Our busy Steel Yard team in Wellington is looking for a hardworking, experienced and physically fit operator. This position requires the successful applicant to have experience in maneuvering a bell grapple on a 40-tone excavator. The role will be required to move product, unload and load trucks and shipping containers in a timely manner.

Skills required:

• WTR and Full Class 1 Driver's License
• Class 2 license would be ideal but not essential and training can be provided
• Current forklift OSH certificate
• Experience with operating excavators or material handlers
• Experience with hydraulic shears and grabs preferred, although training will be provided
• Ability to work as part of a small and productive team
• Able to pass a drug and alcohol test
• Able to pass a MoJ check to our satisfaction
• Be legally entitled to work in New Zealand. i.e., be a New Zealand or Australian citizen or a New Zealand permanent resident.

The hours of work are Monday to Friday and Saturday morning as rostered or required. Weekly hours are approximately 45-50 hours per week. Night Shift work also available.
