Armadillo Civil Limited is a respected and growing civil engineering company delivering top-quality infrastructure projects across the Bay of Plenty. We’re currently on the lookout for a skilled and experienced civil drainlayer and / or drainage operator to join our crew and help drive high-profile projects forward.

Due to several exciting new contracts, we’re expanding our team and need someone who brings deep drainage knowledge, practical experience, and a strong commitment to delivering high-quality work. If you're confident in leading crews and enjoy working on a wide range of residential, commercial, and local council projects — we'd love to hear from you.

You’ll be taking the lead on deep drainage and large-scale infrastructure projects, ensuring all works are carried out to a high standard of quality, safety, and efficiency.

This is a hands-on role where leadership, planning, and attention to detail are key. You’ll be responsible for interpreting plans and technical drawings, mentoring team members, keeping accurate records, and working closely with project managers and engineers to meet project goals without compromising on workmanship.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience leading drainage crews on large-scale civil jobs
  • Willing and able to jump in the trenches alongside the rest of the team
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, site drawings, and specifications
  • Skilled at running pre-start meetings, directing daily operations, and mentoring staff
  • Minimum WTR and Class 1 license (Class 2 and above advantageous)
  • Multiskilled plant operator
  • 5+ years’ experience in 3-waters civil drainage
  • Confident with deep trenching, trench shoring, and working around live services
  • Skilled in installing various pipe types and sizes, including large-diameter concrete pipe
  • Self-motivated, professional, honest, and solutions-focused
  • A genuine commitment to producing top-quality work every time
  • Strong communicator with experience liaising with project managers and engineers
  • Health & Safety focused, with leadership experience in H&S protocols
  • Accurate daily record-keeping
  • Able to pass pre-employment and ongoing drug and alcohol testing

What We Offer

  • A key role within a supportive and respected team environment
  • Competitive remuneration, based on your experience
  • Time-and-a-half overtime pay
  • Company vehicle, laptop, and phone
  • Opportunities for ongoing training and professional development
  • A positive work culture that values your input, ideas, and high standards of workmanship
  • If you're from out of town we will pay $1,500 towards your relocation costs

At Armadillo Civil, we’re more than just contractors — we’re a crew of genuine good guys and girls, who take pride in what we do. We back each other, have a laugh on site, and work hard to deliver results we can be proud of. If you’re someone who brings a good attitude, solid work ethic, and wants to be part of a team that values trust, respect, and quality – you’ll fit right in, apply today.
