Civil Excavator Operator - Wairarapa

Summary: PCL Contracting Ltd is a Wellington Region civil contracting company specialising in roading, drainage, subdivisions, earthworks, and siteworks. We're growing our Wairarapa team and looking for an experienced operator who's the right fit — because our people are the most important part of what we do.

The Role Based out of our Waingawa yard, you'll be operating excavators across a range of civil projects with a focus on road pavement preparation, drainage, and excavation works. You'll also be hands-on with ground duties when needed and play a key role in keeping the job running smoothly. We generally work Monday to Friday, 7am–5pm, with occasional Saturdays and after-hours work when the project demands it.

What we're looking for:

• Operates excavators and other heavy machinery for various construction projects.
• Performs site preparation, including digging, grading, and trenching.
• Ensures compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
• Conducts routine maintenance checks on equipment to ensure optimal performance.
• Collaborates with site supervisors and other team members to coordinate tasks.
• Maintains accurate records of work performed and materials used.
• Assists in the training of junior operators and new team members.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience as an excavator operator in the building and construction industry.
• Valid excavator operator licence and relevant certifications.
• Strong understanding of safety protocols and regulations.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Physical fitness and ability to work in various weather conditions.
