Description
About the Role This project involves complex structural strengthening works in a live operational environment, with the majority of critical works being undertaken at night. You’ll be responsible for:
- Leading all night shift site activities
- Managing subcontractors and direct labour onsite
- Delivering planned works each shift in line with programme
- Ensuring areas are handed back clean, safe, and operational for daytime use
- Maintaining strong communication with the Site Manager and day shift team This role suits someone who is confident running a shift independently, making decisions on the ground, and driving outcomes.
Key Responsibilities Site Leadership & Shift Management
- Take full ownership of night shift operations
- Lead crews and subcontractors to deliver planned works
- Drive productivity while maintaining safety and quality
- Provide clear and accurate handovers to the day team
Structural Steel & Concrete Works
- Supervise and coordinate: o Structural steel install (UBs, SHS, bracing, cleats, connections) o Concrete breakout, underpinning, and new foundation works o Integration of new structure into existing building
- Ensure all works are carried out to drawings, specifications, and tolerances
- Check set-out, levels, and install accuracy
- General Carpentry Framing, finishing etc
Working in a Live Environment
- Plan and execute works to minimise disruption to operations
- Manage: o Noise, dust, and access o Public and staff safety
- Ensure site is left in a safe and usable condition for daytime trading
Health & Safety
- Lead by example and enforce strong H&S practices
- Manage risks associated with: o Structural demolition and modifications o Temporary works and propping o Night shift operations
- Ensure all workers are inducted and working to approved methodologies
Temporary Works & Sequencing
- Understand and follow structural sequencing requirements
- Monitor building stability during works
- Ensure temporary supports and propping are installed and maintained correctly
- Raise any concerns early where sequencing or safety is at risk
Quality & Delivery
- Maintain high standards of workmanship
- Monitor: o Steel install, fixings, alignment o Concrete quality, reinforcement, and finishes
- Assist with QA checks and inspections
- Deliver work right first time, minimising rework
Coordination & Communication
- Work closely with the Site Manager to deliver planned outcomes
- Coordinate subcontractors and suppliers during night works
- Identify issues early and help drive practical solutions
- Ensure strong communication between night and day shift teams
What We’re Looking For Experience
- Proven experience as a Site Foreman or Leading Hand on commercial projects
- Strong hands-on background in: o Structural steel erection o Concrete works (foundations, breakout, reinstatement)
- Experience on strengthening, retrofit, or complex staging projects highly regarded
Skills & Attributes
- Able to read and interpret structural drawings
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing and buildability
- Confident running a shift with minimal supervision
- Practical problem solver who can think on their feet
- Strong leadership presence onsite
- Reliable, organised, and takes ownership of outcomes
