Project Director

About The Role:

Northpower is seeking a highly experienced Project Director to provide executive oversight, governance, and assurance across major and strategic initiatives within the Energy Services division. This role is central to ensuring that large-scale projects and significant bids are commercially sound, strategically aligned, and delivered with discipline, confidence, and rigour. Reporting to the Strategic Projects Director – Transmission & Growth, the Project Director partners closely with the Energy Services Leadership Team, Commercial, and Executive stakeholders. You will lead governance frameworks, investment approvals, and risk management across the strategic portfolio, ensuring projects progress through appropriate assurance pathways and meet Executive and Board expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

You will provide executive-level governance and oversight for major projects and strategic bids from inception through to delivery, ensuring strong alignment with organisational goals. This includes establishing and maintaining enterprise-level project governance, assurance, and stage-gate frameworks, as well as leading tender and bid governance to ensure commercial viability, delivery confidence, and strategic fit. You will oversee portfolio prioritisation, sequencing, and performance, maintaining clear visibility of risk, cost, and schedule across all initiatives. A key part of the role involves preparing and presenting high-quality investment papers, Board submissions, and executive updates, while ensuring robust financial, commercial, and risk controls are embedded from the outset. Acting as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, you will provide independent challenge and strategic insight to support decision-making. You will also lead and develop senior project governance capability, role-modelling leadership behaviours and fostering a culture of accountability, excellence, and continuous improvement.

You are a senior leader with extensive experience governing complex infrastructure programmes, major tenders, and high-value investments. You bring strong commercial acumen, deep risk and financial understanding, and credibility at Executive and Board level. Your leadership style is calm, authoritative, and collaborative, with a strong focus on outcomes, accountability, and strategic alignment.
