Contract Manager required to oversee the planning, delivery and performance of the paving contracts across the Lower South Island

Te kōwhiringa | The Opportunity
As the Asphalt Paving Contract Manager, you will be responsible for the planning, delivery and performance of the Paving contracts across the Lower South Island region. You will lead a high performing team, develop, and enhance strong relationships with clients, and above all you will assist in driving the business forward.
The key responsibilities in this role include:
- Delivery of the contract to an exceptionally high standard
- Reporting to both our clients and Downer management on all aspects of the performance
- Ensuring the delivery of activities meet the expectations of our customers
- Management of staff and supply chain partners to achieve the best outcomes for Downer and our customers
- Ensuring the financial health of our contract
- Championing excellence, health, and safety
Nga pūkenga matua | Important Skills
You'll need to be a collaborative leader who strives for excellence and balances it with your adaptable communication style. You will be a successful people leader with the ability to coach and mentor team members whilst driving operational site work to ensure quality, completion of work to schedule and minimal rework. We'd also value:
- A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent in engineering (BE or NZCE, or equivalent) and/or at least 5 years project management/engineering experience in asphalt and or sealing operations within the civil construction / road maintenance industry.
- Candidates with asphalt experience and a strong understanding of NZTA asphalt specifications will be highly regarded
- Ability to influence and negotiate effectively with clients and sub-contractors
- Understanding of financial and accounting processes
- Proven management experience with responsibility and accountability for staff, plant and return on investment
- The ability to think outside the square and be open to new ideas
- Proven track record in developing a culture that supports SQE management, encouraging and rewarding excellence
