Te kōwhiringa | The Opportunity

Downer's National Projects team has secured the Mid-Block section of the Hawke's Bay Expressway, a key part of the RONS programme. This major infrastructure project will deliver the upgrade of the existing expressway to four lanes, alongside significant safety and resilience improvements.

Downer will deliver the full scope of civil construction and pavement works in partnership with NZTA, contributing to a safer and more efficient transport network for the Hawke's Bay region.

We are currently seeking a Senior Surveyor to join our team delivering the Hawke's Bay Expressway. As a Senior Surveyor, you'll be responsible for organising and delivering surveying requirements across our projects, ensuring work is completed to the highest standards, and in line with contract programmes and specifications. You'll also play a key leadership role - mentoring and developing junior and intermediate surveyors while upholding Downer's core values and best practices.

Ngā pūkenga matua | Important Skills

The Senior Surveyor will have extensive knowledge in all aspects of New Zealand surveying, particularly in engineering and construction surveying on major infrastructure projects. You'll bring both technical expertise and strong leadership capability to the team.

Skills and experience we value:

  • A NZ Certificate in Land Surveying, Diploma in Surveying, or Bachelor of Surveying
  • Experience in major infrastructure or Tier 1 construction projects
  • Proficiency with modern civil software (Civil3D, 12D, Trimble Business Centre, etc.)
  • Experience with Leica or Trimble Total Stations, GNSS
  • Flexibility to travel and work on projects outside your home base when required
  • Demonstrated ability to lead field teams and deliver quality project outcomes
