Description

Our company: We're a small creative team that delivers STEM workshops to students and communities across New Zealand.

We began in Auckland in 2017 teaching after-school coding classes, and have since grown to offer robotics, electronics, 3D design and printing, science, Minecraft, and more!

Our classes now run during school hours, after school, in school holidays, through community pop-up events, and in 1:1 settings to support diverse learning needs.

Our mission is to make STEM accessible and exciting for all - building curiosity, creativity, and confidence.

This role: As our STEM Program & Resource Coordinator, you’ll keep our programmes running smoothly from behind the scenes - and step in to bring the fun to life a few times per week.

This role blends hands-on coordination with creative problem-solving. You’ll make sure our team, students, and community partners have everything they need to deliver inspiring STEM workshops across New Zealand.

From rostering tutors and maintaining our STEM kits, to planning new activities, managing equipment budgets, and ensuring gear is where it needs to be - you’ll be the steady hand that keeps Brain Play running like clockwork.

You’ll also support the teaching team by helping deliver sessions, designing and testing new STEM projects, and ensuring our materials and resources are safe, functional, and ready for use.

It’s a varied, practical, and purposeful role - perfect for someone who enjoys both planning and doing, loves tech and tinkering, and thrives in a supportive, creative team.

Responsibilities include:

  • Creating and maintaining tutor rosters
  • Inventorying and maintaining our STEM kits and resources
  • Organising and systemising our storage units
  • Repairing and upgrading our laptop devices
  • Managing equipment budgets and procurement
  • Planning and launching new STEM activities and lesson materials
  • Coordinating deliveries and collections of gear for classes and events
  • Acting on event / workshop service agreements to purchase, plan, and pack equipment accordingly
  • Supporting the delivery of STEM classes and delivering a number of your own sessions

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience in administration, coordination, or logistics (education or events a plus)
  • Strong organisational skills - comfortable managing multiple moving parts
  • Some hands-on STEM knowledge (coding, robotics, 3D printing, electronics, or science)
  • Confidence using spreadsheets and digital tools to track inventory and schedules
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Positivity, adaptability, and initiative - a solutions focused approach to challenges
  • Reliable private transport (car) — essential, as we travel to deliver programmes and equipment
  • Experience working with young people and leading events

Job Location: We deliver workshops and events across Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch. This role is based in Auckland, but will involve travel a few times per year to Wellington, Christchurch, and new hubs we expand to.

You’ll typically work from home, on the road, and on-site at schools or community events.

Next steps: To apply for this role, please make sure you can confidently tick all these boxes:

  • Available 30 - 40 hours p/w
  • Have reliable private transport
  • Have experience coordinating people and equipment
  • Have STEM and technical knowledge
  • Are comfortable working independently and as part of a small, busy team
  • Feeling confident leading groups of children through activities

Benefits:

  • Travel time and mileage paid
  • Paid training and induction
  • First aid certificate and flu jab provided
  • Play Minecraft for work
  • Christmas & New Year closure (2.5–3.5 weeks)
