Description

Are you a dynamic educator with a passion for the environment? Appreciate flexibility and the opportunity for work-life balance?

Do you enjoy variety and like the idea of visiting a range of schools or early childhood centres? We currently have two positions available. Both roles require a capable and enthusiastic educator who will teach our award-winning Zero Waste Education programme to children.

 Role one would see you teach in urban and rural primary and intermediate schools, in the Eastern Bay of Plenty area. Note, this is not a fulltime role – no work during school holidays.

 Role two focusses on early childhood centres in the Tauranga, Western Bay of Plenty, Matamata-Piako and South Waikato regions. You will teach in urban and rural centres.

In both cases, we are looking for someone who has a solid understanding of environmental and waste issues (reduce, reuse, recycle), and a passion for empowering young people to find solutions. The successful applicant will receive full training and an extensive teaching kit, with support from our friendly and responsive team. As a self-employed contractor, you will be responsible for scheduling and delivering our educational teaching plan using supplied resources.

We expect our new contractor to have great self-management skills, a reliable vehicle, computer access and competence using Microsoft software and Google Apps. You’ll also need to store and manage your resources.

Classroom or teaching experiences is preferred. The ability to educate in te reo Māori is an advantage, but not a requirement. Please note, the primary/intermediate position is not a fulltime role and you will not work during school holidays. Our school educators tend to work between 25 and 35 weeks a year. You would need to be available for an interview from early May 2026. Ideally full training would commence a few weeks later.

Send your CV or enquiries for a job description to office@zerowasteeducation.co.nz or post CV to PO Box 2523, Tauranga 3144. Visit http://www.zerowasteeducation.co.nz for more information. Application close 30th April 2026, 4pm.
