Description

Therapeutic Riding Coach (Contractor)

Location: Christchurch Riding for the Disabled (Canterbury Agricultural Park) Contract type: Independent Contractor Hours: Approximately 8.30 am – 3.00 pm 1–2 days per week (during school terms)

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Therapeutic Riding Coach to join our team and support riders with a range of physical, cognitive, and emotional needs through purpose-led riding sessions. This is a contractor role, ideal for someone looking for flexible, part-time work within a supportive, values-driven team environment.

As a Therapeutic Riding Coach, you will:

  • Plan and deliver safe, engaging, and goal-based therapeutic riding sessions
  • Work collaboratively with volunteers, families/whānau, and centre staff
  • Adapt coaching approaches to meet individual rider needs
  • Ensure high standards of rider safety, horse welfare, and session quality
  • Maintain session records and contribute to rider progress reviews

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has recognised coaching qualifications (e.g. ESNZ, NZRDA, or equivalent)
  • Has experience working with riders with disabilities or additional needs
  • Demonstrates strong communication, empathy, and adaptability
  • Is confident working with horses in a therapeutic setting
  • Holds (or is willing to obtain) a current Police Vetting / Working with Children check

Experience in therapeutic riding, RDA, or other equestrian coaching is highly valued.
