Description

A rare opportunity has arisen to lead one of New Zealand's leading Alpine Outdoor Education Centres, based in the heart of Nelson Lakes National Park

Rotoiti Lodge Outdoor Education Centre is seeking an experienced and community minded Centre Manager to lead our operations, inspire our team, and help shape the future of outdoor education for young people across Te Tau Ihu.

About the role

As Centre Manager, you will be the overall site lead, responsible for overseeing all facets of the Centre's operation. This is a hands-on leadership role combining operational management, people leadership, stakeholder engagement, Health and Safety ownership and strategic oversight. You will lead a small team (3 permanent + seasonal and casual) consisting of instructors, caterers and support staff, ensuring the Centre operates safely, efficiently, and in alignment with our mission. The Centre Manager reports directly to a supportive and engaged Board of Trustees, the appointee can expect ongoing communication and support from the board and the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development of Rotoiti Lodge and it's strategic direction.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and management of the Centre's daily operations
  • Lead, support, and develop staff, fostering a positive and collaborative "one team" culture
  • Oversee programme delivery to ensure high-quality, safe, and engaging experiences
  • Manage health and safety systems, ensuring compliance with all relevant standards
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with schools, private users, community organisations and other key stakeholders, including the Trust board
  • Oversee financial performance, budgeting, and resource management
  • Ensure the effective maintenance and operation of facilities and equipment
  • Contribute to strategic planning and ongoing development of the Centre

About you

  • Proven leadership and people management experience
  • Strong organisational and operational management skills
  • Experience in outdoor education, recreation, outdoor adventure tourism or a related field
  • A sound understanding of health and safety in outdoor environments including a strong understanding of Adventure Activity Regulations
  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills
  • The ability to work both strategically and hands-on when needed
  • Ability to successfully pass Police Vetting
  • Must be a New Zealand citizen or resident with the legal right to work in New Zealand

Location

This role is based on site at Rotoiti Lodge in Nelson Lakes National Park. Living in St Arnaud is required.
