Specialised Learner Assistant at Kohimarama School

Kohimarama Primary School invites you to become a key member of our vibrant and dedicated support team as a Fixed Term, Term Time Only Learner Assistant.

We are searching for an enthusiastic, supportive, and flexible Specialised Learner Assistant who is eager to make a genuine, positive difference within our school community.

This is a dynamic, specialist role where you will work with a specific student with specific needs in the classroom and around the school as well as providing support to our teaching team.

You will encourage learning by assisting the student with their tasks, always promoting independence and fostering a positive, inclusive learning environment. Furthermore, you will actively collaborate with teachers by providing essential assistance as required, ensuring classroom activities run smoothly and efficiently. Ultimately, we seek a key player for our support team who is flexible and willing to assist wherever the greatest need arises.

The day to day tasks for this role are:

• Reinforce lessons and explain concepts or vocabulary as needed, under the guidance of the classroom teacher.
• Assist the student in completing assigned tasks and projects.
• Support, scribe or read aloud information (e.g., from a whiteboard or media resources) for the student when necessary.
• Provide support during practical activities orEOTC, where safety or access may be a consideration
• Utilising technology and materials to create learning resources to support the student
• Assisting the student with orientation, mobility and social support
• Monitoring student progress and behaviour, providing feedback to teachers for progress reports and updated individualised education plans.

The ideal Learner Assistant at Kohimarama Primary School has:

• at least 3 years relevant experience in child education or a level 4 NZQA certificate in Education/Early Childhood Education.
• Is an enthusiastic, supportive, and encouraging team player who is flexible and ready to assist where required.

We highly value the ability to compassionately respond to diverse student needs, including those with unique learning and physical requirements.

The working hours for this role are Monday to Friday, a guaranteed minimum of 30 hours per week. This is a Fixed-Term (Term Time Only) contract, with a start date of 30th January 2026 and a contract end date of 14 December 2026 and with a pay rate of Grade and Step B-C 5 $26.59 - $30.20 per hour depending on skills, experience and/or qualifications.
