Hostel Cleaner & Laundry Assistant

New Plymouth Boys’ High School is seeking a reliable and motivated Cleaner and Laundry Assistant to join our housekeeping team in Hatherly House, our boarding hostel catering for 190 students.

This is a fantastic opportunity to play an important role in supporting the wellbeing of our boarders and contributing to a positive, high-quality living environment within our school community.

About the Role In this key position, you will assist with the cleaning and upkeep of all hostel areas, both internal and external. This includes dormitories, common spaces, dining areas, bathrooms, and windows, as well as participating in scheduled termly deep cleans.

You will also support our laundry operations, including sorting, washing, drying, folding, and assisting with student laundry collection after school. Full training will be provided.

Hours of Work

• Approximately 30 hours per week in term time + limited holiday work as needed
• Typically Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 2:30pm
• Includes a monthly rotating Saturday shift (9:00am – 12:00pm)
• Some flexibility in hours can be discussed with the successful applicant
• Additional hours may be required during peak periods or school holidays

Skills & Experience

• Previous experience in cleaning and/or laundry services (preferred)
• Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining high standards
• Ability to work both independently and within a team
• Good communication skills
• Understanding of health and safety practices
• Physically capable of carrying out the role
• Full, clean driver’s licence
