Structural Engineer – Intermediate

Cook Costello is a multi-disciplinary Engineering Consultancy delivering Structural, Civil, Geotechnical and Geophysics Engineering services across New Zealand. With continued growth and a strong pipeline of work, we are expanding our Structural team and are seeking an Intermediate Structural Engineer to join us in Auckland, with flexibility across our other offices for the right candidate.

This role is ideally suited to an engineer who has developed solid structural design experience and is ready to take greater ownership of projects while progressing toward Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status.

The Role You will play an active role in delivering a diverse range of new build and existing building projects, working closely with Senior and Chartered Engineers while developing increasing technical and project responsibility.

Your work will include:

• Structural analysis and design of timber, steel, reinforced concrete and masonry structures
• Preparation of design calculations, drawings, specifications and technical reports
• Detailed Seismic Assessments (DSA) of existing buildings
• Site inspections, structural assessments and construction monitoring
• Coordination with architects, contractors and project stakeholders
• Contributing practical, efficient and buildable design solutions

You will be involved across projects from concept design through to construction support, gaining broad project exposure within a collaborative consultancy environment.

You will have the opportunity to take ownership of project components appropriate to your experience, while continuing to receive guidance and technical support from experienced Chartered Engineers.

About You We are looking for an engineer who is technically capable, motivated and ready to take the next step in their career.

Ideally you will have:

• BE (Hons) specialising in Structural Engineering (Washington Accord accredited)
• Approximately 2–6 years structural design experience, preferably within a NZ consultancy
• Experience using analysis software such as ETABS, SAP2000 and SpaceGass
• Good working knowledge of NZ standards including NZS 1170, NZS 3101, NZS 3404 and NZS 3603/3604
• Strong communication and coordination skills
• Working toward CPEng or intending to pursue registration
