Fire Protection Design Engineer

South Pacific Fire Protection Group South Pacific Fire Protection Group (SPFPG) is a leader in the installation, design, and maintenance of fire protection systems across Aotearoa. We deliver a full range of fire protection services, including sprinkler systems, fire alarm and detection systems, and comprehensive inspection, testing, and repair services. Our team also supports clients with extinguishers, hydrants, hose reels, pumps, and other Building Warrant of Fitness (BWoF) requirements.

We are experiencing strong growth and are looking for a Fire Protection Design Engineer to join our expanding team. This role can be based in Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, or Queenstown.

About the Role The Fire Protection Design Engineer provides design capability across SPFPG's fire protection services. You will be responsible for delivering accurate and compliant fire system designs, including:

• Fire sprinkler systems (NZS 4541)
• Fire hydrant systems (NZS 4510)
• Fire detection and alarm systems (NZS 4512)

You will work closely with Project Managers and other team members to ensure high-quality design outcomes that meet project schedules and client expectations.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare compliant fire protection designs in line with relevant NZ standards.
• Coordinate designs with other trades and prepare drawings for contractor and client approval.
• Support Project Managers throughout the construction phase, ensuring design queries are resolved early.
• Complete design documentation required for AON and certification processes.
• Produce pre-fabrication lists and material requirements for each project.
• Prepare construction drawings to support installation teams, aiming for zero defects across all projects.

About You To be successful in this role, you will have:

• A relevant qualification at NZQF Level 4 or at least three years of relevant experience in fire protection design.
• Proven experience using Revit and AutoCAD, ideally in designing fire sprinkler and alarm systems.
• Strong knowledge of NZ fire protection standards or NFPA equivalents.
• Previous experience in the fire protection industry, particularly in system design.
• Excellent communication, attention to detail, persistence, and the ability to work well in a team.
• A clean, full NZ driver's licence.
• Ability to work at least 40 hours per week.
