About the Role:
Northpower is looking for motivated people who are keen to start a long-term career in the electricity supply industry. As a Trainee Line Mechanic, you'll join a supportive team while working toward becoming a fully qualified Line Mechanic and gaining nationally recognised qualifications. You'll complete the New Zealand Certificate in Electricity Supply (Distribution) Levels 2, 3 and 4, leading to EWRB registration. Along the way, you'll learn the skills needed to work safely and confidently on the electricity network.
By the end of your training, you'll be capable of:
- Installing, maintaining, and replacing underground distribution assets and poles
- Operating ground and structure-mounted electrical equipment
- Working on distribution electric lines up to 66kV
- This is a hands-on, physical role, working outdoors as part of a close-knit team, so it suits someone who enjoys practical work and being out on site.

Role Requirements:
We're looking for someone with a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and a genuine interest in building a skilled career.
You'll ideally have:
- A commitment to a long-term career path in the trade
- A full, clean Class 1 Driver Licence (Class 2 is an advantage)
- A willingness to learn and take direction
- A strong focus on health and safety
- Good communication skills
- The ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- A team-first attitude and readiness to get stuck in
