About Bathurst:

Bathurst Resources is New Zealand’s largest specialist coal producer with 4 local New Zealand coal mines. We produce over 2.2 million tonnes of coal each year and proudly employ over 550 people. About 80 percent of our production is used for steel making by local and international steel manufacturers. Our high-quality, thermal-grade coal fuels are also used to help drive the engines of many iconic New Zealand food and dairy businesses.

Our Stockton Mine is the largest opencast mine in New Zealand with a long history of high value coal production. It is located close to the coast on a plateau in the Buller coalfield, 35 km north of the Westport township, on the West Coast of the South Island. The Opportunity:

The Environmental Monitoring Officer is a field-based role, responsible for collecting primarily water samples in the field and their in-situ field measurements. The role may also include monitoring/collection of soil, air and noise data. Full training will be provided.

You’ll have a keen eye for detail and take pride in your work. Ensuring sampling and monitoring duties are conducted in an accurate and timely manner. You’ll be confident driving 4WD vehicles and have a strong commitment to health and safety.

You might be a recent university graduate or early in an environmental technician/assistant career, with up to one year of relevant experience in a similar capacity. Alternatively, you might be an experienced Mine Operator, or similar, ready to get off the tools and into the field. Either way, you’ll be passionate about sustainable mining practices and ensuring that we keep our places and spaces clean and healthy for generations to come.

Duties include:

*Conduct field monitoring and sampling (soil, water, air, noise, and vibration) *Manage the end-to-end sample lifecycle, from field collection to laboratory delivery. *Be integral to quality control needed across our systems and databases. *Collect environmental data for regulatory purposes across government and stakeholder reporting.

To be successful in the role you must have:

*New Zealand working rights’ *A strong commitment to health and safety *Excellent verbal, written and digital communication skills *Ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing situations *High level of fitness and outdoor skills *Ideally hold a formal technical qualification *Confident in driving 4WD *A commitment to providing high-quality service
