Site Engineer - Geotech | Hands-On, Boots-On, Laser-Level Legend Wanted Kia ora and happy Monday momentum, we're levelling up (literally). If you thrive on getting out from behind the desk, lining up lasers, running levels, solving problems on the fly, and actually being on-site rather than watching the action from a swivel chair... keep reading. We're partnering with a major national contractor with projects across Aotearoa (you'll find their signs everywhere, but we'll save the name-drop for the interview). They're driving serious infrastructure in NZ and we're searching for a Site Engineer with a geotechnical edge, someone who backs themselves, backs their work, and isn't afraid to get a bit of dirt on the hi-vis.

About the role This role puts you in the centre of critical civil and geotechnical works across New Zealand. You'll be the person who knows the site inside out the levels, the lines, the earth, the risks, the workflow, the "that's not going to sit right" moments. Expect a balance of technical know-how, robust fieldwork, and practical decision-making. No passengers here, you'll be hands-on from day one.

You'll be doing things like:

• Setting out, running levels, and laser height surveys with precision
• Supporting geotech investigations, testing, and on-site monitoring
• Working alongside project managers, forepersons and subcontractors to keep things moving
• Reading plans, marking lines, and ensuring design intent actually becomes reality
• Reporting on progress, site conditions, and quality outcomes
• Troubleshooting on the ground and providing practical, safe, solutions
• Ensuring site compliance, safety, and documentation standards are met

What we're looking for (non-negotiables):

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or similar
• 2-5+ years' experience in site engineering, geotech or civil infrastructure
• Strong set-out skills, lasers, GPS, levels, total stations... you know your toys
• Confident working on active sites with boots on the ground
• Solid understanding of NZ construction methodologies and standards
• Clear and confident communicator, you can talk to consultants, contractors, and the crew
• Ability to work independently and own your patch
• Must be currently in New Zealand with valid work rights

Extra brownie points if you have:

• Experience with piling, retaining walls, foundations, or ground improvement
• Knowledge of local geotech conditions and consenting frameworks
• Exposure to medium-to-large civil builds or complex sites
