-Job Description

We are seeking talented and experienced Metal Fabricators to support our expanding manufacturing and installation operations throughout New Zealand. This role involves operating CNC laser cutting machines, fabricating sheet-metal components, and assisting in on-site installation work. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, hands-on fabrication experience, and the ability to work independently and within a team. Occasionally there will be additional hours which will be considered as overtime and paid accordingly.

-Duties and Responsibilities

  • Metal fabrication
  • Set up, program, and operate CNC laser cutting machines to produce high-quality components in accordance with engineering drawings and job specifications.
  • Select appropriate materials, cutting parameters, tools, and machine settings for efficient and precise production.
  • Interpret technical drawings, CAD files, DXF files, and fabrication plans accurately.
  • Perform fabrication tasks including cutting, grinding, bending, drilling, tapping, fitting, and finishing of metal components.
  • Operate additional workshop machinery such as press brakes, bending machines, and laser welding equipment.

-Quality & Maintenance:

  • Perform dimensional checks, quality inspections, and ensure components meet required tolerances and finishes.
  • Troubleshoot machine performance issues (alignment, material defects, tool wear, calibration).
  • Maintain job records, production logs, and documentation.
  • Carry out routine machine cleaning and preventive maintenance.

-On-Site Installation & Team Collaboration

  • Travel to various customer sites for installation and project work when required.
  • Work collaboratively with engineers, production planners, and workshop team members to meet timelines and delivery schedules.
  • Follow workplace health and safety procedures, ensuring safe operation of tools, machinery, and materials.

-Skills & Experience required

  • Metal fabrication experience (mandatory).
  • Proven experience operating CNC laser cutting machines in a workshop or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering and fabrication drawings.
  • Strong hands-on skills in sheet-metal fabrication, machine setup, cutting parameters, feed rates, and material handling.
  • Familiarity with workshop tools including calipers, gauges, rulers, and squares.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship.

-Minimum Work Experience Required:

  • At least 2 years of metal fabrication and CNC machine operation experience preferred.

-Qualification Requirements**

  • Trade qualification in mechanical engineering, fabrication, welding, or related fields is preferred but not mandatory.

-Additional Requirements

  • Experience with CNC press brakes, bending, or laser welding machines is an advantage.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM or nesting software is beneficial.
  • Must be able to travel for installation work across New Zealand when required.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must follow all workplace safety rules and company procedures.
