Mō Tēnei Tūranga Mahi | About the Role
As an Engineering Academic Staff member, you will be required to lead the design and teaching of courses in the New Zealand Certificate of Manufacturing, New Zealand Diploma of Engineering and Bachelor of Engineering Technology. The key aspects of the role include quality teaching, planning and preparation, subject expertise and assessment of students' work. You will bring your experience in the industry to demonstrate real-world skills and knowledge and influence the future of Engineering in Aotearoa New Zealand. You will have suitable qualifications and current industrial experience in Engineering.
The appointing salary for this role will be between $77,500 and $96,800, dependent on skills and experience.
The Academic Staff Member role is based in our Trades and Engineering Division, reporting to the Team Manager for the Centre of Engineering and Industrial Design and will be responsible for:
- Teaching into the New Zealand Certificate of Manufacturing, as well as Core Engineering modules in the New Zealand Diploma in Engineering and/or Bachelor of Engineering Technology.
- Developing teaching resources and assessments.
- Assessing students' work.
- Working closely with colleagues who are teaching into the same programmes.
- Liaising with colleagues in industry to encourage students' innovation and creative thinking.
- Enhancing the professional quality, direction, and research profile for the Engineering Industry.

- To be successful in this role you will have:
- An appropriate tertiary level qualification in Engineering.
- The confidence and knowledge to contribute to a progressive teaching team.
- The knowledge and experience to lead the design, teaching, and resource/assessment development of Manufacturing and Engineering courses.
- The skills to complement our team of tutors in the delivery of the Level 3 New Zealand Certificate of Manufacturing, the New Zealand Diploma in Engineering and the Level 7 Bachelor of Engineering Technology.
- A preparedness to work closely with colleagues also teaching on the same programmes.
- Connections with colleagues in the Engineering industry, to provide wider learning opportunities and/or encourage students' innovation and creative thinking.
- The motivation to enhance the region's professional quality while influencing the direction of your industry.
- Current industrial experience in Engineering.
