Maintenance Engineer (Mechanical) – Fast-Paced Food Manufacturing Lower Hutt, Wellington | Competitive Pay

About the Opportunity We are a recruitment partner working on behalf of a leading food manufacturing business in Wellington. This is not your typical Maintenance Engineer role. If you enjoy a fast-paced environment, solving problems on the go, and being hands-on, this could be the right fit for you. You’ll be joining a high-performing engineering team where no two days are the same. This role suits someone who is practical, adaptable, and willing to step in and fix whatever needs fixing to keep production running. An immediate start is available for the right candidate.

The Role As a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer, you will play a key role in keeping production equipment running efficiently and safely. You’ll be working in a busy food manufacturing environment where quick thinking and practical solutions are essential. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out preventative, corrective, and breakdown maintenance
  • Responding quickly to faults and minimising downtime
  • Troubleshooting issues and implementing fast, practical fixes (including temporary solutions when required)
  • Completing permanent repairs during planned downtime
  • Supporting continuous improvement and reliability initiatives
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance records and documentation
  • Following and promoting health, safety, and food quality standards
  • Participating in an on call roster when required

What We’re Looking For We’re open to intermediate level engineers who are keen to grow. More important than seniority is attitude and approach. You will ideally have:

  • A mechanical engineering qualification or relevant trade background
  • Experience working in a fast paced manufacturing environment (food/FMCG is an advantage)
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • The ability to think on your feet and work under pressure
  • A hands-on approach and willingness to get involved wherever needed
  • Experience with equipment such as conveyors, pumps, motors, bearings, gearboxes, and pneumatics
  • Understanding of health & safety and machinery standards

What’s on Offer

  • Competitive pay: (depending on experience)
  • Ongoing training and development opportunities
  • Clear pathways for career progression
  • A supportive, team focused environment
  • The chance to work in a dynamic, high energy production setting

If you’re a team player who enjoys rolling up your sleeves, solving problems quickly, and working in a fast moving environment, we’d like to hear from you.
