Seipp Construction is seeking an experienced Works Supervisor – Mechanical to lead the physical execution of mechanical projects across our Christchurch workshop and associated sites.
This is a senior, hands-on leadership role suited to someone who has come up through the trades, understands constructability, and knows how to run a workshop that is brilliant at the basics - safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
You’ll work closely with the General Manager – Mechanical, translating project plans into safe, practical, well-resourced execution while mentoring and developing a high-performing workshop team.
The role
As Works Supervisor, you will take ownership of:
- Day-to-day workshop and physical execution of mechanical projects
- Allocation of people, plant, equipment, and materials
- Constructability input into project methodologies and execution plans
- Leadership, coaching, and development of fabricator welders and site staff
This role is critical in ensuring projects are delivered safely, on programme, and to the quality Seipp is known for.
Key responsibilities
Operational
- Lead all workshop mechanical activities in line with project plans, programmes, and budgets
- Provide constructability expertise, supporting project teams through methodology development and approvals
- Allocate and manage plant and equipment to maximise productivity and efficiency
- Monitor workshop performance and proactively resolve operational challenges
- Capture lessons learned and embed continuous improvement across projects
- Provide regular performance, productivity, and risk updates to the General Manager - Mechanical
- Step in to support other senior staff when required
People & leadership
- Lead in line with Seipp Values, setting clear expectations and standards
- Build, mentor, and develop high-performing workshop and site teams
- Coach direct reports and support personal development planning
- Facilitate performance reviews and ensure annual reviews are completed
- Lead HR initiatives and training for workshop staff, ensuring policies are applied as intended
- Promote debriefs, continuous improvement, and 1% gains
- Maintain strong two-way communication across projects and teams
Health & Safety
- Champion a “no shortcuts” safety culture
- Actively support HSQE initiatives and ISO compliance
- Promote a no-blame, high-trust safety environment
- Ensure all methodologies support the safe delivery of projects
About you
Qualifications & experience
- Trade Certificate in an engineering trade (or higher)
- 15+ years’ experience in engineering delivery
- Proven experience leading complex mechanical projects
- Strong constructability knowledge and practical problem-solving skills
- Confident managing labour, subcontractors, plant, and materials
- Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop teams
- Comfortable making autonomous decisions
- Intermediate skills in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- A strong safety track record and commitment to doing things right
