About the role:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Advisor to join our team at Northpower This role is key in supporting our Supervisors, Team Leaders, and field teams by providing expert guidance on work practices, system usage, and continuous improvement initiatives.
You'll play a vital part in coaching and mentoring across the business from field crews to managers ensuring alignment with Northpower's Communities of Practice (COPs) and embedding best practices in safety leadership, critical risk management, and competency development.
Role Responsibilities:
In this role, you will provide expert technical support by facilitating and participating in operational risk management practices, collaborating to build, refine, and implement best operational practices, and offering advice on emerging issues, innovations, and improvement opportunities. You will review current work practices to ensure compliance and drive continuous improvement, while leading and managing technical safety enhancements and supporting strategic projects. A key aspect of the role involves fostering innovation through idea generation, sharing, and implementation, as well as identifying and applying more effective risk and safety controls. You will also proactively recommend improvements to safety procedures, work practices, and standards aligned with Northpower's Communities of Practice (COPs).
In addition, you will play an important part in audit and assurance activities by monitoring the adequacy and effectiveness of operational controls, conducting 2nd Line of Defence audits on systems and processes, performing compliance and risk assurance functions, and verifying and assessing work type competencies across the business to maintain high standards of safety and performance.
About you:
To be successful in this role, you will bring demonstrated experience within the distribution or energy sector, supported by strong technical knowledge of field operations, safety systems, and compliance frameworks. You'll have a proven ability to coach, mentor, and influence individuals at all levels of the organisation, fostering a culture of learning and continuous improvement. Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills are essential, along with a proactive approach to identifying risks and driving operational excellence. A relevant trade, technical, or engineering qualification (or equivalent experience) will further support your success in this position.
