The Kawerau District Council is looking for a flexible and enthusiastic team member to join the established Library & Museum team on a permanent part-time basis. The successful applicant will be expected to be available to work hours by arrangement during the week and holiday periods; and regularly on our weekend (Saturday) roster. Weekend rostered working hours will be two Saturdays on and one Saturday off (working two weekends out of three) for 3.5 hours.
Our Library Assistants are responsible for multi-tasking in a challenging environment, and this includes:
- Assisting with customer service and library routines
- Operating the circulation desk
- Customer IT support
- Book covering
- Cataloguing.
We are looking for the following skills and experience:
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- A passion for books and information literacy
- Great organizational skills, with the ability to manage time effectively
- Excellent digital skills and a familiarity with information retrieval searching, helpdesk assistance and Microsoft applications
- The flexibility to work a range of hours and do a range of duties from shelving books to reading children’s stories
- Library experience would be an advantage.
Please note: Council has an active Drug and Alcohol Policy. Candidates will be required to undertake a pre-employment medical, and drug & alcohol testing. Council is also committed to the protection and wellbeing of children in the community. This role involves working with/around children so as part of our assessment of candidates we conduct Police Vetting as required by the Children's Act 2014.
