Mental Health Support Worker/ Health Care Assistants– Casual Employment Middlemore Hospital
Location: Auckland, New Zealand Employment Type: Casual / As-Needed
About the Role Zeal Recruitment is seeking compassionate and reliable Mental Health Support Workers and Healthcare Assistants to join our company. This role provides essential support to service users within our inpatient and/or community mental health services. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team that promotes recovery, dignity, and wellbeing for individuals experiencing mental health challenges.
As a casual staff member, you will work on an as-needed basis to support staffing across a range of mental health units. This is an excellent opportunity for those seeking flexible work while making a meaningful contribution to mental health care in Tāmaki Makaurau.
Key Responsibilities *Provide practical, person-centred support to service users in accordance with individual care plans. *Assist service users with daily activities, promoting independence and recovery. *Support therapeutic programmes, group activities, and community outings. *Maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment on the unit. *Observe, record, and report any changes in service users’ presentation or wellbeing. *Collaborate effectively with nurses, allied health staff, and other team members. *Uphold Zeal Recruitment values, policies, and health and safety standards.
About You *Genuine interest in mental health and supporting people in recovery. *Strong communication and interpersonal skills. *Ability to remain calm, patient, and professional in challenging situations. *Reliability, flexibility, and willingness to work across various units and shifts. *Eligibility to work in New Zealand.
Preferred (but not required): *Previous experience in mental health, disability, social services, or similar support roles. *National Certificate in Health & Wellbeing (Level 4 or above), National Certificate in Mental Health and Addictions or working towards a relevant qualification.
