About the business and the role We are committed to promoting the rights, well-being, dignity, and respect of older people throughout the Taranaki Region (New Plymouth, North Taranaki, Stratford and South Taranaki Districts). Our services and programmes assist in alleviating social isolation and loneliness; improve health and wellbeing; provide information, advice, and support. We are striving to be the best age friendly province in the country. The AgeConnect Taranaki Program aims to increase social connections for older people, leading to friendships and strengthened communities. We are looking for a caring, enthusiastic person to work assisting our South Taranaki social connection team, running coffee mornings, a singing program and arranging outings to cafes/places of interest in the South Taranaki area.
Job tasks and responsibilities
- Assist with the running of weekly coffee groups in South Taranaki
- Assist with the running of monthly game/craft groups in South Taranaki
- To assist with monthly outings for older people in South Taranaki
- To promote AgeConnect/social connection opportunities throughout Taranaki
- Skills and experience We seek a person with a love of talking with and supporting older people, and experience in setting up groups and/or events.
You need to have:
- Excellent communication (written and verbal), networking and time management skills.
- A like of, and ability to plan/facilitate social occasions.
- A friendly and compassionate manner.
- Confidence in talking/interacting with groups of people.
- Physically able to move chairs and tables for venue set up where required.
- A full drivers’ licence and use of your own vehicle, for which mileage will be reimbursed for work related travel. Being comfortable driving a van would be an advantage.
- You will need to undergo a Police Vetting check which should show no result.
- There is a possibility of hours increasing in the future.
