Community Support Worker - Te Whakawhitinga

• Hamilton with some possible travel across the district
• Fixed term until July 2026 - 80 hours per fortnight (Part time hours will be considered)

About the Role

We are seeking a community support worker to work in a community based team - Te Whakawhitinga. It may suit someone currently studying to be a registered clinician, or someone with support worker experience in a field other than mental health who wishes to gain new experiences.

Te Whakawhitinga is a co-ordinated mental health and social service aligned to the Te Whatu Ora Waiora vision and underpinned by Kotahitanga. The Kotahitanga values of unity, togetherness, shared vision, working together, trust, relationships, collaboration and integrations are fundamental to the service model of Te Whakawhitinga.

We intend to meet the needs of tangata hapori/ tangata whaiora across the housing continuum, who are experiencing health, social and environmental issues that could put tenancies at risk or have resulted in homelessness.

We will do this by being a tangata hapori/ tangata whaiora led service that;

• helps a person identify their goals and aspirations that will achieve mauri ora
• supports access to community resources and services that will meet these goals
• works in close partnership with tangata hapori/tangata whaiora and other agencies in a transparent and coordinated way.

About you

• Experience in community support work.
• Ability to follow direction from registered staff to enthusiastically offer practical support for tangata hapori/ tangata whaiora to achieve good health and social outcomes.
• Excellent rapport and relationship building skills.
• Whanau centred, collaborative and partnership approach.
• Non-judgemental and empathetic.
• Competency with te ao Maori, tikanga, and te reo Maori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth.
• Experience working in a mental health, community health or primary care setting.
• Experience working with Maori and Pasifika groups.
• Highly developed interpersonal communication and negotiation skills including demonstrated ability to build productive working relationships with colleagues to achieve required outcomes.
